Frequent Reminders About Our Privilege
At HSS, things don’t happen one at a time. We are so frequently reminded about what makes HSS such an amazing place, it’s almost impossible to be able to tell just one story. For this blog post, I’ll share two stories from this past Saturday.
Walk with Us to Cure Lupus
HSS once again served as a sponsor of Walk with Us to Cure Lupus, the Lupus Research Alliance’s annual event aimed at raising awareness and funds to support lupus research. As we all know, lupus is a disease that is of utmost importance to HSS, as we are working continuously on cutting-edge research, innovations, education and support programs focused on it. Our rheumatologists treat many patients with lupus and our researchers are studying the disease to learn more about it and search for new treatment options.
Unfortunately I was not able to join, but hearing about it and seeing the pictures, it was inspiring to know that Team HSS was out in full force supporting the event and recognizing its importance.
Thank you to everyone who helped plan and execute our part in the event, everyone who participated on Saturday and those of you who helped with our fundraising efforts. I am including just some of the great photos from the event below.
One Patient’s Experience
On Saturday I also received a patient letter that demonstrated just how much every member of the HSS family can impact a patient’s experience at HSS. Here are some excerpts from that letter.
I am sending this letter to thank the nursing staff and my Dr…
Regarding the excellent Nursing and Staff members on the floor: Everyone was extremely attentive and there was no delay ever if I needed to press the bell for assistance. There were so many wonderful staff members and nurses, that I wanted to mention the names here so they will be notified of my sincere appreciation of their kindness, cheerfulness and interest in helping the patient.
It is truly this attitude of concern and efficiency that gives hope to a patient who has just experienced major surgery and who may or may not have family members around during their stay alone in the hospital, as I was…
It is definitely apparent that all of these fine individuals like their job and pride themselves to do the utmost of their ability to help the patient feel comfortable and well taken care of.
They all maintain the high standards for which HSS prides itself, and the obvious result is that all the above individuals take pride in being part of the staff…
As I look forward to my good recovery, I keep fond memories of the outstanding service that all of these individuals have given…
Thank you HSS for serving your patients with such consideration and excellence.
What these stories have in common are these three words – Leadership By All.
These words are very powerful and are the three words that enable HSS to be the extraordinary organization that it has become. Thank YOU for your leadership.
One Response to “Frequent Reminders About Our Privilege”
Thank you for sharing these photos. I had the honor and privilege of being part of our awe-inspiring Team La Lucha. It was a fabulous event. Each year, I am amazed at the work that goes into this and the continued spirit that we all bring to this effort. Also, it was great to see so many of our canine friends show their support!
